My answer: It has to do with culture. For example: In America, most of us like masculine, manly, tanned, hairy men, but in some Asian cultures, they prefer fair-skinned men shy, flowery, looks a bit feminine and not trustworthy. People with dark skin also consider light skin to be ideal. It’s not just people with white skin who consider white skin beautiful. Skin whitening products are popular in societies with darker skin.
For a long time, Europeans applied dangerous lead to their skin to make it whiter. Even today, fair skin and European features are ideal in both light and dark-skinned people. Ancient Indian Ajanta people and some African people (I forget who). I heard that some people in Central Africa value dark skin in women, especially in tribes that were not affected by European colonialism.
